A participant on ‘Antiques Roadshow’ told the program’s expert Ronnie Archer-Morgan that he saved a collection of rare items from the trash and was surprised by its value.
What was discovered was that the collection consisted of a set of archived works by designer Althea McNish. She was born in Trinidad and Tobago and immigrated to the UK in 1951.
McNish became known for creating designs for Dior and even produced fabrics for Queen Elizabeth II. She passed away in December 2020 at the age of 95.
The Hawaiian participant rescued the designs just eight months after her death.
Morgan was impressed with the collection and surprised by its value, describing the find as a “treasure chest.”
“I would try to estimate this. I know that half a square meter of certain of her designs could be worth $3,350, or even the textile design itself could reach that value,” he explained.
“I think this archive you’ve brought here is worth over $334,000… and it still needs to be appraised accurately,” he told the participant to their surprise.
