Anchor Beni Rae Harmony resigned during a broadcast of ABC affiliate WICS in Springfield, after honoring Charlie Kirk, who was killed on September 10 by a gunshot to the neck.

Kirk was at an event at Utah Valley University when he was fatally shot. Tyler Robinson, 22, was identified as the alleged killer of Kirk.

The anchor paid tribute to the political activist on Friday (12). Beni Rae called Kirk her “mentor and first boss” during the broadcast and said that Kirk had helped her pursue her dreams.

According to Harmony, she was suspended by WICS after the broadcast aired, which led her to decide to resign from her position.

In an official announcement on Facebook, the anchor cited her “moral compass” as the reason for her resignation.

“This is guided by values that are essential to who I am, which I refuse to set aside to keep a job. I choose my faith and love for my country, and I will always choose them,” Harmony said.

“God bless our troops. God bless our first responders. And God bless these United States of America,” she concluded her message.

On X, formerly Twitter, the anchor stated that she was the first to be punished for honoring Charlie Kirk, while other anchors were fired for “mocking” the death of the 31-year-old man.

MSNBC analyst Matthew Dowd had already been fired from the network for comments made during a live broadcast, as well as a doctor from Englewood Health who “celebrated” Kirk’s death.
