Although starring in it, Alec Baldwin revealed that he has no plans to watch Rush due to the accident that led to the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
The incident occurred in 2021 during the filming of the movie, when Baldwin picked up a gun, which he thought was unloaded, and fired towards Hutchins. However, there was a bullet in the chamber, and the shot hit the director, leading to her death.
In an interview with Variety magazine, the 66-year-old actor described how the entire situation has been complicated for him and his family. “This is obviously the hardest thing I’ve ever faced in my life,” he said during the Torino Film Festival.
“Beyond the victims themselves, what hurts the most is what happened to my wife. We’re trying to catch a breeze in our sails to get away from these things. Because the movie can’t stand on its own. It will always be overshadowed by this.”
Regarding the film, which had its world premiere at the EnergaCamerimage festival on November 20, Baldwin admitted that he hadn’t even seen the final cut of the film. He stated that he hopes Halyna’s husband, Matt Hutchins, will benefit from the film.
“They sent me a rough cut at first, before everything got a little messier and harder. So, I haven’t seen the film. But again, I hope the film gets released, that it comes out. And I hope the film gets sold, and that [Matt Hutchins] gets his money.”
