An AI-generated clone of Michael Caine’s voice narrates the new audiobook adaptation of “The Odyssey”.

The legendary British actor authorized ElevenLabs, an AI audio company, to clone his voice for the narration of the work traditionally attributed to the ancient Greek poet Homer.

According to a report by Variety, the new 13-hour version, released this week on an audiobook app, was created entirely using AI tools, including the voices, sound effects, and musical score.

According to the publication, the project is not directly connected to Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film, which premieres in July and tells the same story. However, the AI company hopes the audiobook will serve as a companion to the epic film adaptation starring Matt Damon.

The 93-year-old Academy Award winner, who retired from acting in 2023, officially licensed his voice and likeness to ElevenLabs and gave his approval to the project.

The Odyssey is one of the greatest stories ever told,” Caine said in a statement. “For nearly three thousand years, its themes of perseverance, loyalty, temptation, and the eternal call of home have resonated across cultures and generations.”
