An AI-generated actress, called the “next Scarlett Johansson,” is causing outrage among Hollywood stars.

Tilly Norwood, a character created by Eline Van der Velden, comedian and CEO of Particle 6, a production company focused on AI, together with the AI talent studio Xicoia, caught attention on social media and provoked a strong reaction from artists in the film industry.
Van der Velden quietly launched Tilly at the beginning of the year, setting up profiles for her on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube, with many photos of the fake actress, all generated by AI.
The genuine interest of agents in Norwood caused even more controversy among Hollywood actors, and many took to social media to express their disapproval of Van der Velden’s creation.
Melissa Barrera, Kiersey Clemons, and Toni Collette are among the actresses who criticized the development of the social media profiles, and some even suggested a boycott of agencies working with AI-generated talents.
“And what about the hundreds of young women whose faces were combined to create her? Couldn’t you have hired any of them?” asked Mara Wilson, star of “Matilda”.
In a post on Norwood’s profile on Instagram, Van Der Velden responded to the criticism: “For those who expressed anger over the creation of my AI character Tilly Norwood, she is not a substitute for a human being, but a creative work — a work of art,” she wrote.
She added: “I am an actress myself, and nothing — certainly not an AI character — can take away the art or the joy of human acting.” For her, Tilly cannot be seen as a threat since she “represents experimentation, not substitution.”
