Tom Holland recently spoke about how having dyslexia and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, ADHD, affects his creativity and his work as an actor.
In an interview with IGN, the “Spider-Man” star revealed that certain professional challenges can be a bit intimidating, but that playing can be a way to deal with his difficulties during the creative process.
“I think playing really helps. I have ADHD and I’m dyslexic, and sometimes I feel that when someone gives me a blank canvas, it can be a bit intimidating,” Holland said. “Sometimes you face those challenges when developing a character.”
Holland believes that making room for his inner child helps when preparing for a new role, and that people should try to do the same in their own lives.
“In any way you can, as a young person or an adult, engage with something that forces you to be creative, think outside the box, and make changes,” he explained. “I think the more we do those kinds of things, the better.”
Currently, Holland stars in a new LEGO short film that emphasizes the importance of play. The actor is also preparing to return to action in the upcoming “Spider-Man: Brand New Day“, his fourth film as Peter Parker.
