Alfonso Ribeiro achieved great success in the popular sitcom “Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air” from 1990 to 1996 in his role as Carlton, alongside Will Smith. However, nearly twenty years after the show’s end, he shared with “Closer Weekly” how he feels about this work.

“Playing Carlton in ‘Fresh Prince’ became a curse. I’ve always said that playing Carlton was the best and worst thing that ever happened to me,” Alfonso revealed when commenting on his entire career and the consequences after the show’s end.

Besides Carlton’s famous dance to the song “It’s Not Unusual” by Tom Jones, which became a craze at the time, Alfonso Ribeiro emphasized that despite the success, the role also brought difficulties in being perceived from other perspectives.

“It was one of the best roles I was lucky enough to play, but it was also the role that took away other acting opportunities because people couldn’t see me as anything else,” he explained.

Nevertheless, he has played other roles on television, such as a judge on “Strictly Come Dancing” and participated in “I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!”, and he fondly remembers the time spent with the entire cast.

“It was about the cast and spending time with them. Before each show, we would go to Will Smith’s dressing room, listen to music, dance, and have great energy to prepare for the show,” he added. “Those are great memories of being together.”
