Reality TV star Savannah Chrisley sparked an intense debate during her appearance on “The View” on Thursday (19) after saying that Donald Trump had not been racist during Black History Month. The hosts disagreed with her.

Savannah Chrisley was filling in for Alyssa Farah Griffin, who is on maternity leave. The reality star discussed President Trump’s diversity policies with her fellow panelists.

The debate erupted after they talked about a judge’s order to restore an exhibition on slavery that the federal government had removed from the President’s House at Independence National Historical Park.

“It’s Black History Month, and you know who is being accused of sending mixed messages about the issue,” said Whoopi Goldberg before showing a clip of the president discussing his “relationship with the Black community.”

The Republican cited civil rights activist Jesse Jackson and rapper Nicki Minaj, who has been a strong supporter of his administration.

Savannah Chrisley said she acknowledges that the president’s remarks can be problematic, but argued that it is “difficult” to hear people call Trump a “racist.”

“He is racist,” Sunny Hostin interrupted. In her remarks, Savannah Chrisley also said he had saved one of her best friends. “A Black woman who has been with him for 18 years,” she said.

“So he has a Black friend. He is racist,” Hostin shot back.

Whoopi Goldberg shared her view on the situation and cited moments in which Donald Trump was contradictory in his approach to DEI programs (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion). She also referenced the president’s post about the Obamas.

On his Truth Social profile, Trump shared a video in which he depicted Barack and Michelle Obama as monkeys. “These are the reasons why his behavior is so problematic.”

Savannah Chrisley continued defending Trump. “For the first time in history, HBCUs received permanent funding under the Trump administration.”

“That funding started, Savannah, dear, before Donald Trump took office,” Hostin corrected her.
