“I don’t know if it’s the right choice or not, but it’s the choice I made. We make different choices throughout life and that’s basically how we build our lives,” he revealed in an interview shared by TNT Sports.
After winning the bronze medal in the men’s 20 km biathlon event on Tuesday (10), Lægreid decided to speak openly about the status of his relationship with his girlfriend.
Biathlon is a winter sport that combines rifle shooting and cross-country skiing.
Lægreid is a six-time biathlon world champion, winner of the 2024–2025 Biathlon World Cup and an Olympic champion in the relay in 2022.
The Olympic athlete cheated on his partner three months before the competition. He told her everything before making his confession live to the whole world.
“So today I made the choice to tell the world what I did, so maybe, maybe there’s a chance she knows what she truly means to me. And maybe not,” said Lægreid.
“I don’t want to think that I didn’t try everything to get her back. Again, I don’t want to steal the spotlight today. I hope this only lasts a day or two,” the Norwegian admitted.

He called the infidelity the “biggest mistake” he had ever made. The athlete met his partner six months ago.
“I don’t know what I want to achieve by saying this, but sport has taken a back seat over the last few days. So I wish I could share this with her,” he lamented.
He continued: “You have to admit when you do something you can’t defend and hurt someone you love so much.”
The athlete added that he hoped that by admitting his mistake so publicly, he could be a better “example.”
Lægreid said he hopes that by going through this embarrassment, he can show how much he loves his partner.
“As I said, I want to be a good role model, but I have to admit when I make a mistake. You have to admit when you do something you can’t defend and hurt someone you love so much.”
