Liza Minnelli defended the use of artificial intelligence in her first new song in 13 years, released on January 21.
Following the release last week of the single “Kids Wait Till You Hear This”, whose title is inspired by her still-unreleased memoir, Liza Minnelli defended the use of artificial intelligence in her first new music in 13 years.
The track, with EDM influences, is part of a collaborative album led by ElevenLabs, a company focused on research and implementation of AI-powered audio.
Before critics had a chance to complain, the 79-year-old artist clarified in a social media post that although the song uses AI-generated arrangements, all the vocals heard are entirely her own.
“Today, my first EDM single since the days of the Pet Shop Boys was released by ElevenLabs, a six-billion-dollar techno giant that does incredible things. Matthew McConaughey was one of the first investors. Smart,” she continued. “What will I not allow this big company to do? Create, clone, or copy my voice! In this dance track, ‘Kids Wait Till You Hear This,’ which is a preview of my book, we used AI arrangements. Not AI vocals. Some trolls didn’t even bother to read the truth, check with me, or with my partners. All the credit is mine!”
Minnelli also encouraged fans to dance a lot to her music, her first since recording a song for an episode of the NBC series “Smash” in 2013.
“Go listen, enjoy it, and shake it to the music as we glide across the dance floor to send my book out into the world and then into your hands,” she wrote in the post shared on Facebook.
