Gregory Bovino, head of the Border Patrol (ICE), made a controversial statement to CNN’s Dana Bash, saying that the agents who shot and killed Alex Pretti “did a good job.”

Just over two weeks after the killing of Renee Nicole Good, ICE agents in Minneapolis executed another U.S. citizen, Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old nurse.

He was trying to defend a woman who was being attacked with pepper spray during one of the protests. Pretti was captured and restrained by several agents and was then shot multiple times in the head.

Despite the backlash and outrage caused by the deaths, Gregory Bovino defended the actions of his agents in an interview with CNN.

“The suspect put himself in that situation. The victims there are the Border Patrol agents,” he told Dana Bash.

Bovino also praised the agents’ work, saying, “Congratulations to our law enforcement for neutralizing him before he was able to do that.”

The CNN interviewer showed the video to the head of the Border Patrol and asked why Pretti was shot after his weapon had been taken away by the agents.

“Dana, you don’t know that he was unarmed. I don’t know that he was unarmed. This is adjudicating a crime scene by freezing a frame from a photo,” he said.

“With all due respect, you say that this is why we investigate, but you’re also drawing other conclusions that somewhat go against the idea of waiting for an investigation,” Bash replied.
