Approaching his 75th birthday, Phil Collins updated fans on his health condition and revealed that he is under the care of a nurse 24 hours a day.
In a new interview, the former lead singer and drummer of the British band “Genesis” spoke openly about the problems he has faced since suffering a serious spinal injury in 2007, which damaged vertebrae in the upper part of his neck and caused permanent nerve damage.
During an appearance on the BBC podcast “Eras”, Collins, who had already said in 2021 that he could barely hold a drumstick, stated that his condition “is ongoing” after being asked whether he had come to terms with the idea of never playing music again.

“You know, I have a live-in nurse 24 hours a day to make sure I take my medication properly. I had problems with my knee… Everything that could go wrong with me, went wrong,” Collins told presenter Zoe Ball.
Collins has also faced constant knee problems for many years, which affect not only his ability to walk but also to perform. The artist’s last show was in March 2022 with “Genesis”, when he was forced to perform seated.
The musician revealed that he has undergone five surgeries and now has a knee “that works.” “I can walk, although with help, you know, crutches or something like that,” he said.
Speaking about his experience on the band’s last tour, Collins confessed that at the time he added even more problems to his health by “drinking too much,” which affected his kidneys and led to a long hospital stay.
According to him, the incident served as a wake-up call, and recently Collins shared that he was celebrating two years of sobriety.
“They were some tough, interesting and frustrating years,” he said. “But now everything is fine.”
