Chris Gardner of The Hollywood Reporter shared a video on X, formerly Twitter, reporting that someone from the Golden Globes catering team allegedly caused the fire.
According to Gardner, someone dropped a lit sterno.
“A crisis was averted inside the backstage press room at the Golden Globes after catering knocked over a coffee stand and the sterno underneath was lit,” Gardner wrote.
“For a brief moment, the carpet caught fire and smoke rose around the curtains. Fortunately, they put it out quickly,” the journalist added.

The video shows members of the catering team removing curtains and any other fabrics from the reach of potential fire sources. Other people are seen with metal containers filled with water in an attempt to put out the smoke.
The 83rd edition of the Golden Globes, hosted by Nikki Glaser at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, celebrated the best in film and television in 2025.
Some of the honorees included Timothée Chalamet for “Marty Supreme,” Teyana Taylor for “One Battle After Another,” Wagner Moura for “The Secret Agent,” Noah Wyle for “The Pitt,” Seth Rogen for “The Studio,” and Jean Smart for “Hacks.”
