Simpson was tried in 1994 for the murders of his wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and Goldman; although he was acquitted, he was later found liable for the deaths in a civil lawsuit filed by the families of both victims.
At the time, Simpson was ordered to pay more than 33 million, but according to a report from People, his estate had paid virtually nothing since then.
O. J. Simpson died on April 10, 2024, at the age of 76, from prostate cancer. Throughout his life, the Goldman family faced major challenges in receiving the awarded compensation, obtaining only a fraction of the owed amount through the sale of some assets and memorabilia belonging to the actor and former football star.
Now, 31 years later, Malcolm Lavergne, the executor of Simpson’s will, has confirmed that the estate will have to pay between 70 and 80 million dollars to Ron Goldman’s father.
In a statement to People magazine, the Goldman family’s attorneys said: “The executor’s acceptance of the debt is a positive acknowledgment of it. It does not constitute payment. This acceptance allows the administration of the debt to proceed through the probate process. We will continue to follow the progress of the case.”
