Nicolas Cage revealed that he was attacked by a swarm of bees during the filming of his latest movie, “The Carpenter’s Son”, and recalled a famous scene from another film in which he is tortured by insects.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actor talked about his role as Joseph, the father of Jesus, in the story based on the Infancy Gospel of Thomas, which depicts the teenage years of Christ, and shared details about the small problem he faced during filming.

“Isn’t it funny? That whole ‘not the bees’ thing,” he said, laughing, recalling his unforgettable line from the “Wicker Man” scene, in which his character is tormented by bees.

Cage does not believe the incident was a divine punishment, as some people on social media suggested, believing the production to be blasphemous.

“Well, what I would say about that, instead of some kind of mystical intervention, is that it was just a stupid location choice, and someone didn’t do their research,” he explained.

“I’d be furious too if I were a bee and a film crew came into my hive and lit everything up with bright lights,” he joked. “It was ridiculous. I don’t know whose idea it was. And then they kept saying, ‘Go back and film there with all the bees,’ and people were getting stung and feeling sick. I mean, it wasn’t very smart.”

For audiences sensitive to the film’s theme, Cage assures that everything was handled with the utmost respect: “I can say that everyone approached this film as if the material were sacred and treated it very carefully. There were no winks, no ironic smiles,” he noted.

“People might feel uncomfortable with it, but I think if you watch the film, you’ll see that it’s a sincere narrative,” he concluded.
