According to a report by Entertainment Weekly, the stars of the first film in the series, from 1999, and its sequel, “The Mummy Returns” from 2001, are set to reunite for another production filled with adventure and action.
In the 1999 version, Fraser plays Rick O’Connell, a treasure hunter in search of the legendary City of the Dead. Along the way, he teams up with librarian Evelyn Carnahan, played by Weisz, and her brother Jonathan, John Hannah.
This would mark Fraser’s first return to the “The Mummy” universe in 17 years and Weisz’s in 24 years, since the actress did not appear in the third film of the franchise, “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor”.
The new film will be produced by Universal and directed by the filmmaking duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, with a screenplay written by David Coggeshall. There is no information yet on whether the film will continue the storyline of the previous installments.
