Charlie Sheen shared that he regretted not contacting actor Matthew Perry before his sudden passing.
The Two and a Half Men actor, 60, praised Perry’s memoir, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing, released in November 2022, a year before Perry died from a ketamine overdose at the age of 54.

Sheen, who also struggled with drug addiction, called the book “brilliant.” “I turned my phone off. I just said: ‘Ok, this is all that matters now.’ And I’m in his book! I would laugh so hard when I saw news about myself on TV,” he recalled in a conversation with Page Six.
“He would say: ‘[Screw] Charlie Sheen, one day I’ll be as famous as him.’ I thought: ‘Go for it, Matt,’” Sheen continued, adding that he regretted not reaching out to his friend before his untimely death in 2023.
“I was going to call him, just try to set up a coffee or something like that. But unfortunately, I didn’t. And, my God, three weeks later, he was gone,” the actor lamented.
After being mentioned in Perry’s book, Sheen returned the favor by writing about his friendship with the late star in his own memoir, The Book of Sheen, released Tuesday (9).
In it, Sheen recalls meeting the Friends star in 2007 through a private support group that Perry hosted at his home.
“He spoke publicly about this group when he was still with us, so I’m not violating any code,” Sheen wrote in the book.
“Matt and I shared a deeper truth we saw in each other — we were both, as Bobby Dee Jay [pseudonym for Robert Downey Jr.] used to say, ‘veterans of the unspeakable.’”
“I was fascinated by Matt’s ability to flip any ugly situation upside down. I never met anyone who wielded humor so masterfully as a deflector shield to keep you in the right place,” the actor also wrote.
“I loved every minute we spent together — and being around Matthew was so much better than most people in the spotlight.”
