Woody Allen, who directed Donald Trump in the film Celebrity (1998), praised the American president’s work as an actor and admitted his desire to direct him again.

At the time, Trump was just a New York real estate developer when he appeared in Allen’s film, which starred Leonardo DiCaprio and Charlize Theron.
Despite their divergent political views, the director did not hold back his praise for the now-president of the United States for his acting work in Celebrity.
“It was a pleasure working with him, he is a great actor and very polite,” Allen said on Monday’s (1) episode of the Club Random podcast by Bill Maher.
“He did everything right and had a special talent for show business. If he allowed me to direct him now that he’s president, I think I could do wonders.”
After the statement, Maher took the opportunity to joke about the director’s various “cancellations,” and Allen assured that he did not agree with him politically.
“I’m a Democrat. I voted for Kamala Harris. I disagree [with Trump] on 95% of things, maybe 99%. But as an actor, he was very good. He was convincing and had charisma.”
“I’m not a fan of Trump. I’m [just] one of the few people who can say they directed Trump,” added Allen, who will turn 90 on November 30.
The director also said he was surprised when Trump announced his first run for president. “He had everything. Why give that up for politics, which only brings headaches, critical decisions and agony?” he asked.
