Tom Cruise has declined an invitation from Donald Trump to receive an honor at the Kennedy Center, revealed a recent report by The Washington Post.

According to the outlet, the 63-year-old actor reportedly told the president that he could not accept the invitation to attend the event at the Kennedy Center Opera House in Washington, D.C., on December 7, due to “scheduling conflicts.”

In the report published last Thursday (14), The Washington Post emphasized that Cruise’s refusal was confirmed by “several anonymous sources” from the Center. According to the site, he is currently working on a series of projects scheduled to premiere in 2026.

Had he accepted the invitation, Cruise would have joined a star-studded list of honorees at this year’s event, after Trump selected five artists for whom he had personal admiration.

That list includes actor Sylvester Stallone, rock band Kiss, singer Gloria Gaynor, British actor Michael Crawford, and country music star George Strait.

The Top Gun actor rarely speaks about politics and recently avoided a question about Trump during the promotion of the latest Mission: Impossible, released in May.

In an interview, a Korean reporter asked the actor what effect Trump’s tariffs had on the film’s production. “We prefer to answer questions about the movie. Thank you,” Cruise replied at the time.
