“I think things have changed,” Montgomery said. “Traditional Hollywood stars existed because there was mystery… Social media has largely killed that. That’s a big part of why I’ve been off the map for the last five years.”
“I’m not trying to compete with anyone, I’m living my truth and I hope I can pay the rent while doing it,” he explained.
Montgomery, 30, emphasized his desire for more privacy and to regain his identity as an actor: “I’ve given a little bit of myself to every role I’ve played, and that’s largely why I took some time off,” he revealed.
“Lately, I’ve been reflecting a lot on what I want for my career. I’m trying to have a bit more control over where and what I’m working on,” he added.
Montgomery joined “Stranger Things” during the show’s second season, and his character was killed off at the end of the third.
