Famous for “Dune” and “Blade Runner 2049,” Denis Villeneuve will take the helm as director of the next film in the franchise.

The announcement was made by Amazon MGM on Wednesday (June 25). Denis Villeneuve will also serve as executive producer alongside his partner Tanya Lapointe.

Amazon had previously confirmed that the new 007 film would be produced by Amy Pascal and David Heyman.

In a statement, Villeneuve shared more details about his relationship with the iconic spy.

“Some of my earliest movie memories are tied to 007. I grew up watching James Bond films with my father, starting from ‘Dr. No’ with Sean Connery. I’m an unconditional fan. Bond is sacred territory for me,” he said.

Denis Villeneuve promises to honor the legacy of the franchise but also bring innovations to his film.

“I will honor the legacy and pave the way for new missions. It’s a huge responsibility but also an incredible honor. Amy, David, and I are excited to bring Bond back to the big screen. I thank Amazon MGM Studios for their trust.”

As for the actor who will play the next James Bond, there isn’t much information yet. The last Bond was played by Daniel Craig, who has retired from the franchise.
