Michelle Obama, 61, recently criticized Ellen DeGeneres on a podcast after recalling an uncomfortable incident on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2012.

While talking about body aging with Amy Poehler on an appearance on the “Good Hang” podcast, Michelle Obama remembered when Ellen DeGeneres forced her to do something on the talk show.

At the time, the former First Lady was challenged by Ellen, now 67, to compete in a push-up contest.

“Nowadays I do them on my knees,” Michelle began. “And another thing: I don’t need to do full push-ups. I don’t have anything left to prove. I can, but it’s hard. My arms are long, I can’t go all the way down,” Michelle explained.

“So there I was, on her show, doing push-ups. And I did more than she did, but to this day she says I didn’t go all the way down,” Michelle Obama complained.

“Anatomically, I don’t think I can. My arms are too long, and she’s a much smaller person than I am,” she continued. The challenge aired in February 2012 while they were talking about morning workouts.

“I was just wondering if you can do more push-ups than me,” Ellen teased.

“Well, it depends on how your back is doing,” replied the former First Lady, who won the challenge by doing 25 push-ups.

Michelle Obama appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show several times before the show ended in 2022 following an investigation into claims that the workplace was a toxic environment.
