Shannon Elizabeth, 51, star of “American Pie,” gave up her acting career to dedicate herself to her wildlife conservation foundation in South Africa.
In an interview at Steel City Con in Pittsburgh, Shannon Elizabeth, known for her role as Nadia in “American Pie,” shared why she stepped away from acting to focus on her wildlife protection organization.
She moved to South Africa eight years ago to continue her work with The Shannon Elizabeth Foundation, a sanctuary under construction to house animals that survived encounters with poachers.
“We have a blind black rhino we’ve been taking care of, and we’ll bring more rhinos in as soon as we can expand the space,” she said, according to People Magazine.

Shannon Elizabeth founded her organization in 2001, originally called Animal Avengers, which at the time focused solely on caring for dogs and cats in Los Angeles. She detailed the project’s origin on the podcast Life Outside Poker in 2024.
“I wanted to create my own organization, and over time I realized I wanted to help more animals in a broader way. That’s when I discovered the intense poaching crisis in other parts of the world.”
She moved to South Africa in 2016 and lives in Cape Town to stay close to her initiative.
Despite the life change, the actress says she still loves acting and is grateful for the time she spent in Hollywood.
