In the Netflix documentary “Avicii – I’m Tim,” the father of the DJ who passed away in 2018 shared emotional details about the mental health struggles Avicii faced before attempting to take his own life.

Tim Berling, popularly known as DJ Avicii, passed away in 2018 in Muscat, Oman, after attempting to take his own life. Berling’s father, Klas, provided details about the mental health struggles his son faced in the Netflix documentary “Avicii – I’m Tim.”

The documentary features narrated segments and archival footage of Avicii at shows, along with interviews from close friends and family. Klas Berling, the DJ’s father, shared that he staged an intervention to help his son cope with the mental health issues brought on by the musician’s fame.

“When he came close, he saw all of us there. It was extremely painful to see the look in his eyes. Man, that was really hard,” Klas recalled. He mentioned that his son got furious, even though everyone was concerned about him.

Klas was assisted by the musician’s tour manager, Arash ‘Ash’ Pournouri. “He refused to give in. But eventually, something made him say: ‘Okay, I’ll seek help.’ I said: ‘Okay, thank you.’ Finally, he understood. We were moved. The message reached him,” the father shared.

Avicii received support from psychologists and psychiatrists and reduced the number of shows on his exhausting tour, while also changing habits in both his professional and personal life.

“Avicii – I’m Tim” is available on Netflix.
