Will Ferrell recently revealed the hilarious excuse he used to quit his job at Disneyland after working there for just one day.
During an interview on the “Good Hang” podcast, the comedian told Amy Poehler that he briefly worked at the park before accepting a different job.
According to the 59-year-old comedian, while he was in college, he took a job at the “happiest place on Earth” in the hope of becoming an operator on the “Jungle Cruise,” a highly sought-after position. However, he soon discovered that it could take years to achieve his goal.
“I got a job and was paid for the orientation day to work at Disneyland,” Ferrell explained to Poehler. “And I thought they were going to assign me to one of the more fun jobs, like being a Jungle Cruise operator. And I found out, oh, no, those guys work there for eight years before they get that job.”
According to Ferrell, when he discovered that his job would involve selling tickets at one of the booths near the park entrance, he reconsidered another job offer he had received around the same time from a friend who worked at a surf shop.
The only problem was that he felt embarrassed about quitting after just one day on the job, so he asked his friend for help. His friend not only agreed but also came up with an unbelievable excuse to resolve Ferrell’s situation.
“I was too embarrassed to call Disneyland, so my friend John called on my behalf and said, ‘I’m going to quit after one day,’” recalled the star of “The Hawk”.
“They asked, ‘Okay, what is the reason for your departure?’ And he said, ‘I have a tryout for the Dallas Cowboys.’ And they replied, ‘Thank you very much.’”
“So, somewhere at Disney headquarters, there is a file that says, ‘Will Ferrell worked for one day. Reason for leaving? Tryout for the Dallas Cowboys football team,’” he said with a laugh.
