Actress Penélope Cruz revealed that she is thinking about getting a driver’s license for the first time at the age of 52.
The decision was motivated by an unusual gift: a car given to her by singer Bono, frontman of the band U2, on her latest birthday.
During an appearance on the show Hot Ones, the Oscar winner said she had never driven because of a deep fear of being behind the wheel.
According to the actress, receiving a car as a gift was “the final push” to reconsider the idea. “After getting a car from Bono, how could I not get a license?”, she joked.
Cruz previously explained that her trauma began in childhood, when she saw her sister, Mónica Cruz, being hit by a car.
Although she survived and recovered, the experience left psychological marks that make the actress feel anxious even when she is a passenger in a vehicle. She said she has been working on this fear in therapy.

The actress also commented that her husband, Javier Bardem, hardly drives either, despite both of them having starred in films involving cars and racing.
Although she did not confirm when she plans to start lessons, Penélope said she is now seriously considering facing her fear and finally getting her license.
