Paramount Skydance has denied allegations that it promised to reshape CNN in order to win the support of United States President Donald Trump for its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery.

In a statement to Entertainment Weekly, the company described the reports as false and said that no such commitment was made to Trump or to any government official.

The denial came after reports claimed that Larry Ellison, founder of Oracle and father of Paramount Skydance CEO David Ellison, had discussed possible changes at CNN with Trump, including changes to the network’s staff and editorial line, during talks about the proposed acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery.

In a statement, Paramount Skydance said its only commitment was to maintain fact-based journalism and preserve the editorial independence of its outlets. The White House also said that Trump remained neutral during the review process of the deal.

The proposed acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery by Paramount Skydance, valued at around US$111 billion, remains surrounded by controversy due to concerns over media concentration and possible impacts on the editorial independence of companies such as CNN and CBS News.
