Jill Biden, former First Lady of the United States, said she was “shocked” by Kamala Harris’ defeat to Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election.
The statement was made during an interview on CBS News’ Sunday Morning, aired last Sunday (31), amid the release of her new memoir, View From the East Wing.
According to Jill, she believed Harris would win the race and that the Democratic campaign showed signs of strong public support. She also said she thought the former vice president had the ability to be a good president of the United States.
“On election night, I was certain she was going to win. The excitement for her and the crowds and, I mean, how people rallied around her, and I really felt that she was going to win. I was shocked that she didn’t win, because I think she would have been a good president,” Jill said.
Despite that, Harris ultimately lost the election to Trump in a race marked by intense political polarization and strong voter mobilization on both sides. After the defeat, Jill admitted that she simply “went to bed”.
