“There was a case where a young boy allegedly stabbed a girl. It shocked me. I kept thinking: ‘What is happening? How does a boy end up stabbing a girl to death? What triggers something like this?’” he said.

Graham stated that similar crimes have occurred multiple times, and he wanted to bring awareness to this issue.

Co-creator Jack Thorne mentioned that “Adolescence” also critiques the rise of modern misogynistic communities.

“It scared me and excited me at the same time because I felt like we had something important to say,” he added.
