Ryan Reynolds and Andrew Garfield gave an interview to Variety magazine, recalling when they shared a passionate kiss during the 2017 Golden Globe Awards.

The two actors shared the kiss right after Reynolds lost the award for Best Actor to Ryan Gosling for La La Land. “The last time I saw you was at the Golden Globe. Garfield was sitting next to me, and he said, ‘Hey, if they call your name and you win, don’t kiss your wife [Blake Lively], just kiss me,'” Reynolds recalled.

“And of course, Gosling absolutely didn’t deserve that [the award],” joked the Deadpool actor, before clarifying: “I’m a crazy genuine fan of him.” Reynolds lost the award to Gosling, but they decided to kiss anyway.

“I loved that we were sitting there and thought, ‘Let’s do it anyway,'” the actor concluded, recalling how the Golden Globe cameras only captured the moment in a wide shot from the other side of the room, and the viewers didn’t notice the kiss until later in the night.

Garfield also told Reynolds that he was “happy you were up for sharing the kiss,” even if it was just for fun. “I also felt a little insensitive in retrospect about Ryan’s moment,” Garfield added.

Additionally, the two agreed they were happy that the moment was captured from such a wide angle. “Nobody really noticed until later, and it was really perfect,” Reynolds concluded.
