Pattie Boyd, 79, has announced she will auction off the love letters that Eric Clapton wrote to “steal her” from George Harrison.
The model, who married the Beatles musician in 1966, received love letters from Clapton while the two rock icons were still best friends. In 1977, Boyd divorced Harrison and, two years later, married Clapton, a marriage that lasted for 10 years.
Now, Boyd is planning to auction off Clapton’s love letters, with the blessing of the musician who wrote classics like “Layla” and “Wonderful Tonight” about her. The online auction at Christie’s is scheduled to take place from March 8 to March 22.
“What I would like to ask is if you still love your husband? But if there is still a feeling in your heart for me, you should let me know,” Clapton said in one of the letters.
“If you want me, take me, I’m yours. If you don’t want me, please break the spell that binds me. Caging a wild animal is a sin, taming it is divine.”
Speaking to The Sun, Boyd said: “Even now, if I read those letters, I would be terribly sad. I’ve kept them in a chest and every now and then I take a look and start reading, and my heart beats, skips a beat, because it’s heartbreaking. They are very painful in their beauty.”
