The British program “Who Wants To Be a Millionaire”, a quiz show hosted by Jeremy Clarkson, had a very unusual situation when a contestant decided to call his wife for help with a question.
JP Morgan, a science teacher, was unsure about one of the questions and decided to use one of his help options; the contestant chose “a phone call to a friend” and asked for a call to his wife. The question that could earn him £16,000 or nearly $20,000 was: “Which of these days is part of the weekend in Germany?”
The options were A) Donnerstag, B) Mittwoch, C) Sonntag, or D) Dienstag. When he appeared on the show in 2020, Morgan explained why she could tell him which answer was correct: “My wife’s aunt has been living in Germany for over 50 years, my wife has been there a few times.”
“Shall we call Elizabeth?” Jeremy asks, and then a male voice answers the call; the host immediately comments: “That was another man who just answered your phone, relax, relax, it can be completely innocent.”
The production then calls again, and when Elizabeth answers, Jeremy immediately asks: “Can I confirm if you have someone there with you?” The scene caught the attention of viewers who took to social media to comment on the episode.
One viewer wrote online: “Question during the break: who was the man who answered the call when JP called his wife?” and another added: “Well, that’s one way to expose his wife’s infidelity.. calling her phone and a guy answers”.
Despite conspiracy theories and infidelity, other viewers quickly pointed out that there was a much more innocent reason for the ‘male voice’: “The man who answered was literally an automated voice saying ‘Sorry, there is no service’. Jeremy was joking about a case,” commented one internet user.
Despite the extra excitement, Morgan took home a prize of £64,000 or over $81,000.
