“Apple Cider Vinegar,” the new Netflix series, tells the true story of an Australian influencer who pretended to have terminal cancer to gain more followers.
Wellness digital guru Belle Gibson convinced thousands of people that she had cured her illness with a healthy diet, exercise, and holistic medicine, and based on this, she launched an app featuring her recipes and “miracle” advice, as well as a cookbook, which earned her over $1 million.
An Australian publication discovered that Belle had lied to her followers about donating part of her profits to charitable organizations, and shortly after, it was revealed that the self-proclaimed cancer survivor and wellness promoter had also lied about her illness.
The six-episode series, which premieres today on Netflix, stars Kaitlyn Dever and features Alycia Debnam-Carey, Aisha Dee, and Ashley Zukerman in the cast.
