Enrique Padilla, 21, was sentenced to 20 years in prison after killing another moviegoer in a fight over seats during a screening of the film “No Hard Feelings” starring Jennifer Lawrence.

After an altercation that resulted in a fatality, Enrique Padilla was sentenced to 20 years in prison. The conflict began over a seating dispute during a screening of the film “No Hard Feelings,” starring Jennifer Lawrence.

Padilla was at a movie theater with his girlfriend in June 2023 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

According to witness statements to the Albuquerque Police Department, the young man argued with a couple because he believed they were sitting in the seats he had reserved.

The victim was Michael Tenorio, a 52-year-old U.S. Army veteran. Theater employees tried to de-escalate the situation, but Padilla threw a bucket of popcorn at Tenorio, who then pushed him.

Police reported that “multiple shots” were fired. “Padilla pulled out a gun and shot Tenorio, killing him. He then hid the weapon to pretend he was also a victim,” authorities said. Tenorio died at the scene.

Padilla was found hiding behind a bush near the emergency exit of the theater where the Jennifer Lawrence movie was being shown. He had also been shot and was taken for medical treatment.

In November 2024, he decided to plead guilty to the charges. The 21-year-old’s sentencing was announced on the Albuquerque Police Department’s Facebook page on February 12.
