‘The Big Bang Theory’ star Jim Parsons revealed during his appearance on David Tennant’s podcast the reason he left the series after 12 seasons.

Known for playing Sheldon Cooper on “The Big Bang Theory,” actor Jim Parsons said that his decision to leave the show after 12 seasons was one of the main factors for the show’s ending.

During his appearance on the podcast “David Tennant Does a Podcast With…,” Parsons said that he was exhausted from balancing his work on the sitcom and other projects, leaving little time to be with his husband, Todd Spiewak.

The actor recalled a moment when he was walking his sick dog. “I’ll never forget that walk in the park to let him go to the bathroom before we went to the commercial shoot,” he recalled.

“He looked so bad, and I was so tired. Todd said, ‘We have to go. We’ve scheduled this. They’ve fit everything into your schedule.’ And I just started crying,” Parsons continued.

“It still gets to me. I thought, ‘This dog is going to die while I’m away working. I feel so bad,'” said the actor, who had to have the animal put down.

He also mentioned that his father’s death, a few years before “The Big Bang Theory” ended, was another reason he chose to leave the series.

“I thought, ‘If anyone had told me, like my dad, that I had six more years to live, I think there are other things I need to try.’ I don’t know exactly what those things are, but I know I need to try,” he said.

Since the sitcom ended in 2019, Jim Parsons has worked on other projects like “Young Sheldon,” which ended in 2024. He also starred in the Netflix series “Hollywood,” which earned him an Emmy nomination.
