McKellen fell in love with the actor 54 years his junior when they worked together on a pantomime called Mother Goose in December 2022. In the pantomime, Ian played the role of Mother Goose, while Oscar played his son, Jack.
The couple is said to have quickly fallen in love after working together. On New Year’s Eve 2023, Oscar spoke about his romance with the acting legend. “I saw in 2023 at the house of my new life’s love,” he wrote on his X (Twitter) profile.
However, their relationship is said to have recently ended. Ian’s closest friends have always doubted that the legendary actor would ever “settle down,” according to a report from the Daily Mail.
“Oscar has been telling friends and family about his big plans with McKellen. He even said he thinks they will get engaged. McKellen hasn’t had a partner in 20 years. He really isn’t a man for marriage,” said an unidentified actor about Oscar’s expectations from their relationship.
“He doesn’t want a man living in his house. He likes having someone along when he’s on tour. He falls in love, as quickly as he likes them, he argues with them.”
“There’s no way, when he’s out of the fairy tale bubble, he’ll have that guy with him in East London, running around,” added the anonymous source.
