Former news anchor Marcelo Carrião was arrested for drug trafficking this Wednesday (28) in Santos, a city in the state of São Paulo, Brazil.

Carrião was the main supplier of narcotics for a criminal group investigated by the police. According to Detective Fabiano Barbeiro, in a statement to the g1 portal, the former anchor was detained along with eight other suspects involved in drug trafficking.

Police investigation suspects that Carrião was the main supplier for a duo of women who organized a ‘drug delivery service’ in the city of Santos. Both were arrested in early February.

“We are now investigating the sources from which Marcelo bought these narcotics,” said Detective Barbeiro.

Another detective involved in the investigation, Leonardo Rivau, says that the suspects were identified based on a cellphone belonging to one of the women arrested in the operation.

“He offered the drug, she placed an order, and they arranged delivery so that she could buy and resell it,” explained Rivau.

Marcelo Carrião worked as a journalist and television presenter until this year, according to information from his social media.
