In the Woodland Hills area of Los Angeles, actor Brian J. White assisted his neighbors in preventing the illegal Mexican immigrant Juan Manuel Sierra-Leyva from setting the area on fire with a blowtorch. The incident occurred on Thursday, January 9, just days after the Los Angeles fires.

White, who is best known for playing Captain Dallas Patterson, told Deadline that he heard one of his neighbors shouting, “Drop that, drop that.” Sierra-Leyva was about to set a trash can full of leaves and branches on fire.

The “Chicago Fire” star was filmed trying to talk and calm the arsonist before detaining the criminal with the help of his neighbors.

“I was trying to make it clear to the man that I wasn’t interested in explanations. He was on my property with a lit blowtorch, so I just wanted to make sure he waited until the police arrived,” he explained.

After the police arrived, Sierra-Leyva was arrested and charged with violating his parole, but authorities stated that there was not enough evidence to charge him with arson.

Brian J. White mentioned that he feels safer knowing that he “is protected by vigilant residents.”
