Christopher Nolan’s next film already has a release date and will be based on the Odyssey, the classic poem by the Greek author Homer.

On Monday (December 23), Universal Pictures revealed that the film will premiere in theaters on July 17, 2026. They didn’t provide further details, except that it will be filmed worldwide in an “epic mythical action” style and will utilize the “brand-new IMAX technology.”

Nolan, who is a big fan of IMAX, will be responsible for the first adaptation of Homer’s saga to be shown on IMAX screens. Earlier this month, he told Associated Press that they are in an intensive testing phase with IMAX to prepare for the new production.

“They have an amazing engineering team, really brilliant minds doing extraordinary work. It’s wonderful to see innovation in the celluloid film world still happening and happening at the highest level possible,” the director told AP.
