Bella Ramsey, star of “The Last of Us,” told British Vogue magazine that she received her autism diagnosis while filming the first season of the HBO series.

Bella Ramsey revealed that receiving her autism diagnosis was “liberating.” In an interview with British Vogue, the “Game of Thrones” star spoke more about her neurodivergence.

“I’ve spoken a bit about neurodivergence before, but for some reason, I always avoided it. I felt like I didn’t want to say what it was. But that’s okay. I was diagnosed with autism while filming the first season of ‘The Last of Us,’” she explained.

Ramsey was in Canada when a crew member mentioned they suspected she was autistic, like their daughter. After a formal psychiatric evaluation, the suspicion was confirmed.

Known for portraying Ellie in the HBO series, the actress revealed that she had always had doubts about her neurodivergence, as she felt strange, lonely, and sensitive to sensory issues in school.

Bella Ramsey said the diagnosis helped improve her acting.

“It’s liberating. It allows me to walk through the world with more kindness toward myself, without blaming myself for not being able to do everyday tasks that seem easy for everyone else,” she confessed.

The 21-year-old actress returns for the second season of “The Last of Us” on April 13, on HBO and Max.
