Ariana Grande has received many comments about her body and appearance since starring in the musical Wicked as Glinda. Now, in a recent interview, she addressed these criticisms.

“My God. I’m not… Good question,” said the 31-year-old singer, clearly trying to hold back tears after being asked how she deals with society’s beauty standards, before being comforted by her Wicked co-star Cynthia Erivo.

“I kind of do it in front of the public, and I’ve been like a specimen in a Petri dish since I was 16 or 17, so I’ve heard it all,” continued the actress.

“I’ve heard every version of what’s wrong with me. And then you fix it, and then you’re wrong for different reasons. But it’s all from — even the simplest thing — your appearance, you know?” she lamented.

“I think that in today’s society, there’s a comfort that we should never have — commenting on other people’s appearances, what they think is happening behind the scenes, or their health, or how they present themselves,” she continued.

“From what you’re wearing to your body, your face, everything — there’s a comfort people have in commenting on it that I think is really dangerous, and I think it’s dangerous for all parties involved,” Grande said.

“But you can protect yourself from that noise — whether it’s at a family gathering or online, if you have to block people, or if you need to delete the app entirely — you keep yourself safe because no one has the right to say [anything],” she concluded.
