Argentinian journalist Tomás Munaretto stirred controversy when he openly criticized his salary on the news channel Crónica during a live broadcast.
While reporting on the economy from the street, he revealed the poor working conditions, disclosing that he was paid 1,700 Argentinian pesos per overtime hour, an amount he considered insufficient given the expenses.
Surprising the host, Munaretto also highlighted the lack of benefits such as vacation and social assistance. Shortly after the incident, the journalist was dismissed from the station.
Munaretto’s outcry was broadcast on Argentinian public TV and sparked reactions on social media. He compared his salary with that of other professions and emphasized the precarious situation of dozens of colleagues in the same predicament.
On social media, Munaretto shared that he had been fired and that his lawyer was taking steps to prevent future employment in other media outlets. He expressed uncertainty about his professional future but demonstrated determination to find a solution to his unemployment situation.
