A man was left in shock upon discovering the surprising value of a rare Rolex he purchased for less than $400 in 1975 during an appearance on “Antiques Roadshow“.
The watch was appraised at up to $700,000 at auction, as the Vietnam veteran had never worn it and had kept all the original documents, including the box and brochure.
The guest explained that he bought the Rolex while in Thailand serving in the army, attracted by the popularity of the watches among pilots.
Despite never using the watch, he was impressed to learn about its impeccable condition and the rarity of the model. The appraiser praised the watch’s condition, emphasizing that the warranty had never been filled out, which makes it very valuable.
The appraisal left the man so surprised that he joked he was about to faint, throwing himself on the ground, but the appraiser assured him that the watch was an exceptional find. He explained that due to its rarity and the fact that it had never been worn, the Rolex is one of the few examples in the world in such condition.
