Actor Barry Tubb, known for his role in “Top Gun” (1986), is suing Paramount Studios for the unauthorized use of his image in “Top Gun: Maverick” (2022).
Tubb, who portrayed Wolfman in the original film, appears in a photo on the wall of a bar in the sequel. He claims that his original contract did not include mentions of sequels, which would invalidate the use of his image in the recent film.
Tubb’s image in the sequel shows the characters from the original film reunited, being displayed at a crucial moment in the plot.
The actor asserts that the producers of “Maverick” did not seek his permission nor compensate him for the use of his image. The amount of compensation has not been disclosed, but it is speculated to be significant, considering the box office success of “Maverick,” which became one of the highest-grossing post-pandemic films, earning approximately $1.48 billion.
